Trump Tariffs and Trade War Launched

Markets have dropped this week on the back of the trade war kicking off between the US and the rest of the world; namely, Canada, Mexico and China
Tariffs have gone into effect as of today, kicking off a new trade war and market turbulence. Markets have sold off in response to the heightened risk and volatility. This week has been a reality check for investors, and at this point, it looks like the tariffs and trade war story is not going away.
We have made moves in our portfolio to take a more defensive stance and position. We have heightened positions in fixed income, cash and gold right now in our Tactical Wealth Portfolio. Our equities are high-quality positions, more likely to navigate through the turbulence. Our investments in companies impacted directly by tariffs are minimal at this point. This is all part of our tactical, technical and timely process for navigating markets.
We have a more dynamic approach to navigating markets than the vast majority of advisors. It allows us to manage risks better and be more opportunistic. We are active and tactical as opposed to taking a passive buy-and-hold approach. We will go to cash. We will move a portfolio from offence to defence, based on changing market conditions.
